Requirements
The process of becoming a volleyball official involves training, practice, certification, and equipment. To become a member of GCVOA, all officials must complete the following requirements:
- Attend GCVOA Training
- Pay annual GCVOA dues $40 for new members and $35 for returning members.
- Register with OSSAA and pay annual dues ($62 annual fee for first sport officiated, required for State Certification)
- Pass the NFHS open book test (required for State Certification)
- Carry the required equipment.

- Penalty Cards – red and yellow
- Watch
- Ball pump
- Air pressure gauge
- Net height chain
- White short sleeve polo shirt (You can order shirt with optional “certified volleyball official” logo)
- Optional white long sleeve polo shirt (with optional “certified volleyball official” logo)
- Black slacks (warm-ups, sweats, jeans, and wind pants are not acceptable)
- Black belt (if belted slacks are worn)
- Black court shoes
- Black socks
- Flags (optional)
