Rookie Referee Training

OfficiatingAll new GCVOA Officials (rookies) must attend training (classroom and on-court practice).  Most of the training is typically conducted on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in June.  Please see the Announcements on the right-hand side of this page for dates and locations or click HERE.  As a final chance to practice officiating, prepare for the season, and be critiqued and evaluated, rookies must attend an all-day scrimmage, which is usually the first Saturday in August.  This training program is a significant time investment for our new members, but is considered one of the best around and is essential to maintaining the high standards of officiating for which GCVOA is known.

Advanced Clinics

All Active GCVOA members attend advanced training in June and/or July.  The requirement is to attend two of the multiple clinics offered and members have a choice from a selection of training types and dates.  Typical sessions may include topics like the art of officiating, ball handling, communicating with partners, dealing with difficult coaches and situations, identifying rotation errors, illegal attacks/blocks, mechanics, on-court practice, rules interpretation, and score keeping.  Rookies are also encouraged to attend these sessions.
